In the English language, we casually use the word "love"
To express every positive emotion under the sun.
Our contemporary society recoils from the word "sacrifice".
But -- just as the Resurrection couldn't take place without the Cross --
So, too, perfect love must have sacrifice.
It is in sacrifice -- that pure self-denial that places the needs
Of another ahead of our own, that elevates love to perfection.
Perfect Love is what Jesus demonstrated to us -- and perfect love is
Precisely what Jesus asks us to emulate. Jesus told His disciples:
"This is My commandment: Love one another as I love you.
No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command you to do."
(John -- Chapter 15)
This golden crown of thorns is covered with rose petals,
Representing the real pain and sacrifice of Jesus,
Transformed as they fall into roses --
Symbols of God's Perfect Love.
As we see our own reflections in the thorns -- We are reminded that
Every time we hurt one another, we hurt the Lord anew.
Dear Jesus -- Help us to follow your example of Love --
That we may always be your friends!
